Goal-Setting Tips
Setting good goals is the first step in performing at your highest level. To help you prepare for a year of setting and achieving goals, TAF has put together some tips to help you on and off the field.
- In setting your goals, try to use the "S.M.A.R.T." method. Goals should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.
- To reach a goal, it helps to have a plan. Clearly define what you want, and set smaller goals that you will need to achieve along the way
- Tell your goal to your friends and family so when you are having trouble sticking to your plan, your friends and family can help you through.
- Practice. Doing anything well comes from doing it over and over and over. The more you practice, the more it becomes part of who you are. Remind yourself that it won't come easy at first, but that you should not give up. Give it time and keep trying.
- Don't stop once you've achieved one goal! Dream even bigger and achieve excellence.
- Take inspiration from someone or something to help you achieve your goals
"Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it." - Michael Jordan
"Pain is temporary. Quitting lasts forever." - Lance Armstrong
"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." - Wayne Gretzky
"For me, winning isn't something that happens suddenly on the field when the whistle blows and the crowds roar. Winning is something that builds physically and mentally every day that you train and every night that you dream." - Emmitt Smith
